New! Caucus Clubs to facilitate self-directed learning.

Hyper-local self-directed learning is the purpose of new Caucus Clubs, catholic in the small "c" sense of "universal."

Civic education will be a primary purpose, neighbors helping neighbors to become better neighbors and more active citizens.

Groups in cooperation with local chambers of commerce, service clubs, community newspapers and other local organizations are expected to form on a variety of topics.

A group sampler will be held once a week in Denver starting this Friday. It's free and seating is very limited so rsvp well in advance if you are planning a trip to or thru Denver.

Faithless Elector usage frequency.

It's clear the idea of electoral college by auto pilot is a modern invention. Maybe we should just have monkeys do the job.

Encourage your state electors!

Monday state electors across the country will cast their ballot for who they believe in their heart should be president. That's what they are told to do in the constitution. Any state law that interferes with that obligation, any pledge that has been made to blindly vote for who the masses wanted, for this one office the founders saw there needs to be a safety valve.

LOTS of media stories on this, you've see some. To make sure you've seen the best be sure to check out Electoral College News (click). It's free.

PLEASE get this information to your state electors, please thank them for their service, and please encourage them to vote their conscience.

Save the Caucus!

Our wonderful grassroots system has served us well since 1912.

That we Coloradans might be duped by newcomers and outsiders into trading our grassroots for AstroTurf is very sad. But that is just what will happen if the forces seeking to, “Kill the Caucus”, use their great wealth and power to lure us into the Borg-like Presidential Primary system with their  toxic Propositions 107 and 108.

“We're systematically replacing ‘social capital’ with plain old monetary capital (with primaries),” wrote Sue O'Brien in 2002. “Colorado's traditional caucus-convention system, in contrast, rewards the shoe-leather and diligence. It provides a low-cost way for aspirants to work the neighborhoods, investing energy instead of dollars.” See complete article in post here on COCaucus.org.

“Propaganda is being used by powerful forces in an attempt to grab even more power,” said Wren. “We’ve responded with this web post we hope those who agree with us will pass along to their friends.

“This is a real David and Goliath battle. If our side of the story doesn’t get out, it is very likely 107 and 108 will pass, much to our detriment.

Claim: Colorado Caucus unfair to average, ordinary citizen.

Truth: The Colorado Caucus is the best way for the average, ordinary citizen to serve in elected public office.

Without the Colorado Caucus, it is difficult for anyone to get elected to a local political office to represent their neighbors.

Powerful forces, backed by millions of dollars is trying to create chaos in Colorado politics. Why? It will kill the grassroots and make voters easier to manipulate with misleading ads like this one.

Yes, every two years all citizens have the opportunity to participate in their neighborhood caucus. Fact is not everyone wants to attend this two-hour meeting every year, and they don't have to do so.

After the Colorado Caucus candidates are put on the primary ballot and all citizens vote. Unaffiliated voters who want to vote are allowed to do so, help is provided online and at each polling place. It is a lie they are left out of the process.

This year's Presidential race is a mess, in part because powerful forces that manipulate the media with their huge ad budgets and lobbying power have succeeded in inducing states to give up the wonderful grassroots system we still have here in Colorado.

Vote NO on 107 and 108, they will kill the Colorado grassroots.

Release: Hyper-local Neighborhood Caucus Clubs Being Organized.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 20, 2016

Hyper-local Neighborhood Caucus Clubs Being Organized.
“Fresh leadership is always needed in both major political parties, so we will help them both.”

Denver—Save the Caucus, a Colorado political committee formed this year to fight what has become Propositions 107 and 108, today announced a project for hyper-local civic education to increase informed participation in the Colorado Caucus in 2018. www.Meetup.com/Caucus-Clubs (303)861-1447

Making the announcement long-time community activist John Wren said, "Hyper-local neighborhood Caucus Clubs will be promoted through Nextdoor.com and local community newspapers. Caucus Clubs will welcome new neighbors and invite everyone in the neighborhood to social events and educational activities in the neighborhood, in cooperation with local chambers, local community newspapers, service clubs, etc.

"Caucus Clubs will not take political positions, except on legislation that effects the Colorado Caucus, nor will we endorse candidates or issues. Like the Denver City Club (I'm a former member and past President) our purpose will be 'to inform not reform.' We will cooperate with everyone interested in strengthening the grassroots in business and politics, and we will inform newcomers of their precinct committee people for both major political parties and we will give them subscription information for local publications and performing arts groups," said Wren

"We are going to need a lot of help to make this happen. Anyone who'd like to be a part of it is encouraged to check out the Caucus Clubs link on www.COCaucus.org orwww.SmallBizChamber.org or go directly to www.Meetup.com/Caucus-Clubs. Those who like the idea are asked to Tweet us @IDEACafe or @BuildBetterCO."

Save the Caucus is a Colorado political committee. 1881 Buchtel Blvd. #501, Denver, CO 80210 (303)861-1447 www.COCaucus.org John Wren is the registered agent. He co-founded the 2002 Save the Caucus which defeated the Caucus-killer Amendment 29 60% 40%  despite being outspent 1400 to 1.

“Why is the Colorado Caucus withering? First, because the legislature, in an ineffectual grab for national headlines, created a meaningless Presidential Primary that eliminated the headline race that once inspired much caucus activism.

“Second, because we're all getting good at sitting on the sidelines. The Kettering Foundation's David Mathews once reminded readers that the word idiot comes from the Greeks. Privacy, they thought, was akin to stupidity. "Idiots" were incapable of finding their place in the social order.

“Why bow to the trend of letting the next guy do it? Why sell out to letting money replace shoe-leather at every level of American politics?”

Save the Caucus! Vote NO on 107 and 108!

Please print out, post on bulletin boards, and email copies to
your friends encouraging them to do the same thing.

SAVE THE COLORADO CAUCUS! VOTE NO ON CAUCUS KILLING 107 AND 108.

Proposition 107:

Shall there be a change to the Colorado Revised Statutes recreating a presidential primary election to be held before the end of March in each presidential election year in which unaffiliated electors may vote without declaring an affiliation with a political party?

Proposition 108:

Shall there be a change to the Colorado Revised Statutes concerning the process of selecting candidates representing political parties on a general election ballot, and, in connection therewith, allowing an unaffiliated elector to vote in the primary election of a political party without declaring an affiliation with that party and permitting a political party in specific circumstances to select all of its candidates by assembly or convention instead of by primary election?

Powerful forces have poured $3 million into getting these two misguided measures onto the Colorado ballot. Most of the money came from newcomers to Colorado and their friends, and from powerful people who live outside Colorado.

There is an organized campaign to get legislation such as this passed in every state, thereby virtually killing the ability of common people to use a political party to get elected.

107 correctly uses the term "recreating," because not long ago we experimented with a presidential primary and found it was a waste of tax-payers dollars.

108 will create chaos, it would be like letting people from other states vote in the Colorado election. It's a very, very crazy idea. But it's ahead in the polls because of the heavy advertising that's been done.

More about these two bad ideas and about the Colorado Caucus, our wonderful system that just needs better leadership on www.COCaucus.org  Save the Caucus is a Colorado political committee. Caucus is an American word.

...And so it turns out that CAUCUS is a truly American word, properly borrowed by immigrants from natives, a democratic word in a time when a working democracy was not yet even a working idea. This was a term which the American republic of the early l9th century was quick to turn into political operation and would never relinquish as useless or obsolete. It may be that the present caucus as precursor for part elections is not necessary, but the notion that discussion on every level is profitable, is in the end quite necessary, and a good safeguard against voting rights being hurried through the polls without sufficient warning. The right to associate and discuss is at the heart of any democratic process, and if do we end up associating overly and talking endlessly, that will be the price of democracy, and the inefficient minor segment of a larger process which does by its essence and importance require endless talk and endless consideration.

Ideas for making the 2020 Presidential elections much, much better:

Thursday, September 15, 2016

Kent Thiry: Many want to be on a team.

“We believe a huge percentage of human beings want to be part of a real team—a team that cares about each other, that’s serious about accomplishing something, and wants to do good along the way” Kent Thiry quoted in 5280 Magazine

 http://www.5280.com/magazine/2012/09/strangest-show-earth

Yes. That's why our wonderful neighborhood system for nominating to the primary ballot is such a good thing when it has good leadership, which it has not had for some time.

Why were Initiatives 98 and 140 now assigned the numbers 107 and 108.

Question: Initiatives 98 and 140 are now Propositions 107 and 108. Is this number shuffle always done? If so, why?

Answer: We asked who before he retired was one of the most knowledgeable election law experts in Colorado. He was unaware of this.

Starting in November 2010, Initiated Statutes are assigned numbers beginning with 100, restarting at 100 after 199, and instead of calling the measure an Initiative it is called a Proposition. See Colorado Revised Statutes, Title 1, Article 5, Section 407Article 40, Section 115Article 40, Section 124.5and Colorado Constitution, Article V, Section 1, ¶ 7.5

The director of research for the Colorado legislative council uses these new numbers in the Blue Book, an impartial voter information pamphlet with an abstract of the fiscal impact study and arguments for and against the measure.
As a result, those who have read about the Initiative, perhaps worked on getting the signatures required to get it on the ballot, now have to trash any signs or other materials with the original number. Wasteful and confusing, to say the least.
This is another example of change not necessarily bringing progress.
After citizens have invested in getting the initiative onto the ballot, publicizing the initiative number that the Secretary of State assigns, the Secretary of State then gives the measure a new number that will appear in the Blue Book and on the ballot.
Let this be a lesson with the changes being proposed for our elections this year. Change isn't progress, vote NO on Propositions 107 and 108.

We are today starting to raise money to fight for the defeat of 140 and 98. I'll pledge to contribute what we collect for Save the Caucus if you'll do the same with the committee you have formed. Call me. (303)861-1447 ok? Can I buy you lunch today? John Wren, registered agent, Save the Caucus, a Colorado Political Committee.

John –
I signed on to be chairman of the Let Colorado Vote initiative because I think that the more people who participate in our democracy, the stronger our country becomes. And the way Colorado is doing things – closing elections to unaffiliated voters and depressing turnout with terribly inconvenient and unrepresentative caucuses – isn’t healthy.
We have to do better. Let Colorado Vote is working on two ballot initiatives: one to reinstate a presidential primary and another to open primaries to all voters. I’m thrilled both initiatives have qualified for the ballot and are going straight to the voters this November.
But we’re facing a critical end-of-month fundraising deadline, and we’re still short of our goal. Not closing that gap means we’ll have to cut back on our plans to hire organizers, run ads and educate voters.
I’m asking for your help. Can you make a donation before our midnight deadline to help us hit our goal?
Here’s the link to donate: https://letcovote.nationbuilder.com/donate_em
Really appreciate your support,
Kent

Thinking: wonderful servant; terrible master.

Powerful poem below, dramatic alarm on this first day of the short time here on earth even the youngest of us has left.

Keats reminds that each of us can do many things with those remaining days, but not everything. The temptation is to get stuck thinking about the Possiblities and then do nothing.

Ben Franklin asked himself each morning, "What good may I do today?" Then he went and did it. He believed the best way to worship God was to do Good for those He had created.

What good may I do TODAY? Then go do it! Don't think it away! Trust the little I can do with God's help is enough.

To do nothing because I can't do everything is greed.

Poem of the Day: When I have Fears That I May Cease to Be Poem of the Day today from @PoetryFound

BY JOHN KEATS
When I have fears that I may cease to be
Before my pen has gleaned my teeming brain,
Before high-pilèd books, in charactery,
   Hold like rich garners the full ripened grain;
When I behold, upon the night’s starred face,
Huge cloudy symbols of a high romance,
And think that I may never live to trace
   Their shadows with the magic hand of chance;
And when I feel, fair creature of an hour,
That I shall never look upon thee more,
Never have relish in the faery power
Of unreflecting love—then on the shore
Of the wide world I stand alone, and think
Till love and fame to nothingness do sink.
